Laboratories for wood technology of the Swiss College of Timber Management, SH Holz in Biel

The Swiss College of Timber Management is a traditional elite school of the timber industry. Apart from education the school has been cultivating an intensive technology transfer for many years and runs R&D projects together with partners from the wood industry. Moving from a simple teaching institute towards an open market for existing and new knowledge, the SH Holz Biel will position itself even more clearly as a leading competence centre for the wood industry.

Since its integration in the Bernese College research and development (R&D) is running as an independent department. Today a team of approximately 25 engineers and teachers is in charge of planning, coordination and execution of national and international projects in the field of wood. The R&D department is devided into five sections: building with wood, wood techniques, production and logistics, wood technology and management.

The wood technology section offers services ranging from the classical norm tests to developments and optimising of material technologies and processes. For a perfect order handling a well equipped material research laboratory with a wide range of measuring and testing equipment, test chambers and special devices is on service.
