iwood panels: A wood based material with surprising properties

The fact that iwood panels will dissolve if exposed to a large concentration of water or humiditiy is important when it comes to recycling them. The panel or object is first shredded, then dropped into a water bath. All the material that dissolves can be recycled and reused eg for fuel pellets. Only the material that was added eg for coating the iwood panel (eg. veneer, glue) and does not dissolve needs to be disposed of. This means that for use of iwood panels in the furniture industry there is an advantage in terms of sustainibility compared to competing materials.

Carbonised and ceramicised iwood panels are surprisingly stabil and thanks to the treatment also resist water.
